Travel Day

We crossed over into Kansas on US 166 to Baxter Springs and then turned north on US 69 to Fort Scott, this was part of the Kansas Historic Route 66 Scenic Byway, which was a beautiful drive over rolling hills through farm and ranch land . At Fort Scott we spent several hours wondering around the buildings at the "Fort Scott National Historic Site" where many of the buildings have been reconstructed to depict the life in the 1840 period with each visit to one of these historic sites we gain a better understanding of our history. A picnic lunch was enjoyed under the spreading limbs of an old elm tree. We then continued north along scenic US Rt. 69 to Louisburg where we turned west on Kansas Rt. 68 and 268; these roads again took us through rolling countryside populated by ranches and farms.   At the town of “Lyndon” we turned north on US 75 to the “Crossroads RV Park” where we will be spending the night. The weather has turned windy to the point that the camper is rocking like we were on a boat, it may rain tonight, but it is not predicted to be a serious storm.
