Travel day

We left Sue & Al’s at 10:00 AM and headed north on US71 to Fort Smith AR, and then I-540 and US 71 to the MO state line . It was a beautiful ride through the “Ouachita” and “Boston” mountains, many of the hardwood trees were still budding or the leaves were still in the infant stage, with many shades of green. Lunch was at Wendy’s in Fort Smith, In Missouri we continued north on US 71 and I-49 to exit 35 where we headed east to the
“George Washington Carver National Monument”, this was our first scheduled stop
of many national parks and monuments.
Both of us had forgotten the important role this man played in our country’s history, and it was well worth the time we spent here. We then continued north on I-49 and then west on I-44 to exit #1 where we camped for the night at the “Downstream Casino Resort”. By joining their players club we got a free nights camping, $10.00 each of casino credit and $10.00 each off of dinner in the casino; this was to good an offer to pass up, but of course we did contribute a little to their profits in the casino. The camp ground was actually a large concrete parking lot lined off for campers with water and electricity, a dump station was provided upon exiting the campground.
