Non-Travel Day

This morning was spent relaxing, doing laundry, and a little cleaning of the camper; we needed some down time . After lunch we headed to the “Garden of the Gods” which was just a short ride from the campground. The “Garden of the Gods” was a privately owned piece of property that was donated to the city of Colorado Springs, and is now run as a city park, free to all.
Millions of years ago plate tectonics thrust up granite creating Pikes Peak and in the process cracked the surrounding sandstone forcing it up to the surface tilting the rock strata to a vertical position. The result is a spectacular feature that has become the “Garden of the Gods”, where the red sandstone rock form huge pillars. We were lucky to link up with a park volunteer
who lead our group through the park explaining the geology; we learned a lot that we would not have if we wondered the paths ourselves. Wandering the park, the trading post store and watching the orientation film took up most of the afternoon. Prior to returning to the camper we did another of those mundane things, we went to the grocery store.

The photos are beautiful! Can imagine what they looked like in person.
We are having beautiful cool, dry weather here, but, no snow!

Isn't it beautiful there. Glad you have a day of relaxation in such a great spot. Hope that you have some warmer temps soon. We have a spell of some really unseasonably warm temps here with high humidity...hope that it goes back to our spring weather. Bob doing better...has gone to church with me two weeks in a row! Love your beautiful photos.
