Non-Travel Day

This morning we awoke to blue skies, the temp. was in the
high 40s but the sun was out. We headed
west on US 160 for a one hour drive to “Mesa Verde National Park”.

Returning to the truck we drove 5 miles back towards the entrance, and then took a side
road for 12 miles to our next destination the “Step House”. On all of the park roads you are constantly going up and down and around tight curves, this is truly a white knuckle
drive. The Step House is another Cliff Dwelling that is very well preserved, and is reached after a downhill half mile walk. Here we met a Park Ranger that was very informative, and we are glad to have met him. These ruins here were somewhat different from the others as there were examples of the original plaster that covered the building walls and also some petroglyphs on the rock walls. After returning to the trail head we were lucky to meet a park ranger that was also a Native American, his insight on and answers to our question was very enlightening. From this point it took about an hour to return to the park entrance; and another hour to reach our camper. Today was a beautiful day and we both enjoyed our experience at Mesa Verde National Park.
