It was a real hassle to get to Cuc Phuong National park but it was worth it. We slept 20km inside the park in a house that could host about 20 people but we were the only one there, in the middle of the forest. Thankfully, a family leaves at the park centre and they run a small restaurant where we could get rice, soup and fried vegetables. That's all we ate for 2 days (plus the few fruits we had we us). Also, we had no electricity after 9.30pm so we were given canddles.

We walked a bit in the forest and tried to see animals . We got to see one giant black squirrel. It was very big and black… We also saw a lot of regular squirrels and few small birds. We didn't see any bears or leopards. We heard lots of  frogs and birds. We only saw few small bird and one bird of pray. As a general observation, I would say there is not many birds in Vietnam. Weirdly.

Notable encounter: we had stopped to listen to the noise of the forest when I (Beryl) felt a sting in my neck. I thought it was a mosquito. It turned out to be a leech… The bite really hurt and bled more than it should have for its small size.

On a vraiment trop galéré pour arriver jusqu'au parc national de Cuc Phuong mais ça en valait la peine. On a dormi 20km à l'intérieur du parc, dans une baraque pouvant abriter une bonne quinzaine de personnes mais dans laquelle il n'y avait que nous. Heureusement, qu'il y avait le 'park centre' à côté où on a pu manger. On n'avait rien prévu. Par contre on a mangé du riz bouilli, des légumes frits, de la soupe et des œufs pendant deux jours. Dans nos chambre, on n'avait pas d'électricité après 21h30, du coup on nous a donné des bougies.

On s'est un peu baladé dans la forêt et on a essayé de voir des animaux. Le seule chose qu'on est réussi à voir fut un écureuil noir géant. Il était gros et noir et il se baladait sur une feuille de bananier. On n'a vu ni ours ni léopard...dommage. Par contre on a entendu des grenouilles et des oiseaux. On a vu quelques petits oiseaux et un rapace. En règle générale il n'y a vraiment pas beaucoup d'oiseaux au Vietnam. C'est d'ailleurs un peu bizarre.

Rencontre notable: on s'était arrêté pour écouter les bruits de la forêt quand j'ai senti (Béryl) un truc me piquer dans le cou. J'ai cru que c'était un moustique, mais non.....c'était une sangsue! La morsure fait vraiment mal et saigne bien plus qu'elle ne devrait pour sa taille.
