We spend New Year in Ninh Binh. We arrived in the afternoon from Cuc Phuong, The town was really quite. We had a quick look around to try to rent motorbikes but couldn't see anything so we got one from the hotel. We had to have dinner at the hotel because everywhere else was closed! We stayed downstairs drinking beers and at around 11pm the boss came with a bottle of rice wine to toast the new year. After a couple of shot it was time for us to make our way to see the fireworks.
To find them we just had to follow the flow of scooters
. It was unbelievable the number of scooters carrying at leats 2 people each (and a maximum of 5). The fireworks were supposed to start at midnight but were earlier! And we were not the only one who were at the wrong-ish place and had to run to a better spot. The fireworks were not fantastic but the atmosphere was great. At the end, they all started their engine and left more or less in the same direction. On the way back we saw all the people lighting piles of woods on the pavement and burning offerings. Once back at the hotel the boss was still there waiting for us with more rice wine to cheers to the New Year!
