Chilling in Kas

Kaş, Antalya, Turkey
Today we walked around Kaş, even though it was quite a rainy morning.  The local Friday market was out in force, protected by tarps, and seems to be where the locals buy their vegetables and fruits, honey and molasses, and other local products as well as carpet and tires!  But the rain drove us on, and we ducked in and out of shops for a while when it poured the hardest.  By early afternoon the rain had largely stopped and we walked around the harbor front accompanied by a dog that adopted us along the way.  Dogs as well as cats are numerous in these small towns.  With a few kind words and scratches behind his ears, this one stayed with us for quite a while and it was quite amusing watching him (unsuccessfully) stalk cats.
After we grabbed a kebap wrap for lunch, the sun came out and we walked over to the small Greek amphitheater not far from our hotel, and up the adjacent hill behind it that contained tombs dating from the 4th century B.C.  Later we scaled a few hillsides on the other side of town to see the even older Lycian rock tombs, which were carved out of solid rock.  Returning to the hotel, we had our afternoon beer upstairs again, but after only a few minutes on the terrace we retreated inside the lounge—the wind was so strong it threatened to blow our glasses over.  We have gotten a bit tired of all this wind!
Dinner was so good last night that we decided to stay in again to eat, this time ordering a meatball accompaniment to the vegetable buffet.  It was great again with five or six vegetable dishes, none repeating from the night before; this is spoiling us.
