A MEMORABLE NIGHT OUTING

This is how I commented on TripAdvisor from my tasting experience .

DINING: The dining experience we had at the Seafood Ouzeri -Mezedopolio "Gia Psaraki" was superb.

In Greek the name means 'For small fish' and we did try some of the most popular dishes from the expert hands of the executive Chef Manos Grammatikoyiannis who is a very charismatic and a talented young man. He makes the difference at his cuisine with a new flair of Greek passion with his simple but yet outstanding creations.

Set out by the promenade with the palm trees opposite the "Messogios Restaurant" at a very romantic spot under the stars and full moon. It is the ideal option for a romantic summer outing!

APPETIZERS: We tried 3 appetizers starting with the Fish Roe (taramosalata) and the outstanding Eggplant salads. It was perhaps the best eggplant salad I have had for years! (€4 .00 each)

The marinated in garlic, parsley lime and tomato Anchovy appetizer was very tasty as well. I used a pinch of sea salt to balance the taste because Anchovy was so fresh as if it popped out of the sea a few minutes earlier. (€4.50)

Our Salad was green “stamnagkathi” –surprised a bit as I know this is a seasonal greenery which I am fond of and is not to be found in the market as yet. Whatever it was, it was good and was accompanied with “Graviera” Cretan cheese, topped with mustard vinaigrette sauce which added this extra flavour making the salad superb.

MAIN DISH: We tried 4 out of the 14 in the list. It is difficult to tell which was the most delicious because each had its own value and different taste.

Starting with the Grilled fresh Cuttlefish in virgin olive oil, sprinkled with lemon and its own ink sauce . (€7.50). I was never fond of cuttlefish especially with ink, but after tasting it here I have already cooked the similar dish at home! The combination of virgin olive oil, the aroma of the oregano and the freshness of the cuttlefish that smelled sea, made the difference. It is a dish to count on.

The other alternative of Cuttlefish is the fried option with beans puree, oregano and lemon. Bouncy in texture with a sensational taste. Another super yummy dish for €8.00.

The Fried Anchovies in tempura are served in a totally Greek style, -in a scoop. Fresh, crunchy and so tempting! (€7.00).

The very last dish we had coming from the restaurant's fish market was the fresh Squid. It was a super Wow dish! Nicely presented that smelled its freshness from a distance. It was sweet, mild and briny, leaving a pleasant taste on the palate. It was paired with a tabbouleh salad (cracked wheat, cherry tomatoes, fresh herbs, parsley, and fresh lemon juice) decorated with tomatoes and a very tasty sauce . It is not to be missed!

BEVERAGE: One of the recommended wines for a special outing experience that pairs well with seafood is the floral variety of Viogner coming from Ktima Gerovassiliou. It has rich creaminess and mouth feel and an intense gold color. It exhibits a fragrance of peaches and smoky accents to the finish. (€36.00)

Of course there is always the option of the house wine “Thermae Sylla” which I have tried in the past and it is good. It comes in red and white and price varies depending on the amount. €4.00 the 187 ml, €8.00 the 375 ml, and €18.00 the 750 ml. The wine comes from Tirnavo, near Larissa.

TIP: “Gia Psaraki” summer restaurant is open from June till late of October, and restaurant Messogios opens November – May.

THE OVERALL DINING EXPERIENCE: Genuine simplicity accompanied by hight quality standards and impeccable service is what to expect out of this restaurant. I wish to thank Petros who was a huge help to us throughout our tasting journey of exquisite tastes.
