Athens, Attica, Greece

This is how I comment on our stay, the extended review and my overall opinion as it appears on TripAdvisor .

An Excellent Choice. Repeaters Love it…Why not you?

The more you stay in the St. George Lycabettus hotel the more you appreciate what it offers….this is how I feel. A 3 night stay!

CHECK-IN: Firstly nice to be back and see familiar faces. Quick and efficient service coming out of professional staff starting from the concierge, reception, housekeeping and management. It did not take us long to check in and have our bags taken upstairs.

STAFF/SERVICE: The whole package of services justify the many repeaters. The people involved are all well trained, are multilingual, friendly and discreet at the same time. Guests will undoubtedly enjoy a personalized service here as they have a way to make you feel very special . The 3 ladies of the excellent Guest Relations department are simply amazing. Marina, Aristea & Kimberly, all sweet with a nice word, alert, checking if guests need anything. They will expertly advise and ensure that we, their guests are happy throughout the stay. Personally, I was impressed with Kim when I received a message checking to see how our stay was, even after we got home. Thank you Kim, your nice gesture touched me.

LOCATION: Unbeatable! In the trendiest and most elegant up-marketed district of Athens. Kolonaki is famous for its chic residents, elegant restaurants, charming café bars and a wide plethora of boutiques and luxurious stores. A neighborhood with several open-air markets, picturesque restaurants that stay close to the Greek tradition, offering a charming atmosphere. A walking distance from the city center, an area boasting for its spectacular views of Athens and the Acropolis.

VARIETY OF BUDGETS: The hotel's high standards ensure a memorable stay whether booking at a luxury suite or a more economic room . Something to be considered before booking is that there are rooms of different budgets. Besides the luxury suites that offer the finest views of the city with their private balconies, there are others more economic, while the interior courtyard rooms offer space and comfort and are ideal for younger guests or those who intend to spend much of their time touring around Athens. The latter, feature large windows to let natural light in, and they either face the hotel’s courtyard or atrium.

ROOM: Our room on the 5th floor (#506) was well equipped, pleasantly spacious and spotless. Room’s facilities are what you expect out of a 5* hotel, with an afternoon housekeeping service as well. I found its contemporary interior charming. The set of lamps on each bedside table are classy and these together with the over-bed lighting effect and paintings add the extra elegance in the room, thus creating a warm and welcoming ambience. The tiny balcony offers spectacular views of the Acropolis .

Bed linens, towels and robes are the Coco-mat brand. The attached mirror on the wardrobe door proves not only handy but creates a delusion making the corridor look wider. An internal door in the room provides excellent noise insulation that guarantees a unique sense of serenity.

During our stay a card was handed to me from housekeeping one afternoon when the lady dropped by to check if we needed anything. The message on the card was meaningful. "40 years… Our guests arrive as residents, leave as friends, and return as family". I smiled and thought how truthful this message is!

COFFEE/TEA FACILITIES: There is just an Espresso machine in the room but each coffee is charged, unless you ask the housekeeping for the usual electric teapot. I am sure the ladies will be more than happy to fetch you one. They did for us.

COMPLIMENTARY: A platter of seasonal fruit and a bottle of water was the welcoming indulgence, however there is availability for some extra complimentary water and juice throughout your stay . The Guest Relations Dept. will inform you accordingly.

BATHROOM: Marble bathroom with bathtub including 3 tubes of shower jell and shampoo adjusted on the wall. A complete set of toiletries, extra tube of shampoo, shower jell and body cream, -the Jade brand. The fluffy bright white towels made the difference. They smelled freshness, but what was missing were the very small square ones usually found next to the toiletry set, used mostly by ladies. I requested a couple and I had them brought in less than 5 minutes.

TERRACE/POOL: Summer, and the rooftop pool is an irresistible place to be if not interested in sight-seeing or shopping. It is the unique spot for a refreshing drink, a swim, or simply enjoying the Greek sun. Service is impeccable, views awesome!

BREAKFAST: The American type of breakfast is sumptuous, enough to fill you up for hours. When at the restaurant for breakfast, spot the Greek tiny flag which is an eye catching and is placed on the rotunda . Get there for some exclusive Greek delicacies that are carefully selected to provide a high standard and true taste of Greece. Try the cheese roll, or zucchini omelet, have a teaspoon or two of the Cretan cheese (anthotiro) or try the tiny sweet delicacies with syrup. You will be amazed!

DINING: We were on b/b so I cannot comment on the cuisine, but the top floor is the place to be no matter what time of day or night it might be. The restaurant’s interior is classy and enjoys the most spectacular views of the city of Athens. (light lunch and gourmet dining)

THINGS TO DO: Follow any of the pathways across the peripheral zone of the Lycabettus hill, -one such is across the hotel, and it will get you to the top of the peak to the chapel of St. George, for the most breathtaking views of the city.

The hotel’s backdrop of lush, pine-scented Lycabettus Hill provides a haven for rejuvenating strolls or peaceful interludes far from the bustle of the city . Yet, the hotel is at a walking distance to the major highlights of Athens, the chic neighborhood of Kolonaki, and the shopping areas of the city centre. The Lycabettus area and the particular spot where the hotel is located, is the perfect area to combine sports but pleasure as well. The package has it all.

Tip: Taking a taxi from the city centre to the hotel will cost you approximately €3.30 maximum €4.00. It pays to get down on foot since it is a pleasant and interesting walk, but be sure to pick a taxi to bring you up especially if it is summer. This is what we did anyway.

DINING OUTSIDE: Several guests dine at the restaurant of the hotel which is great, however there are times when you want to try something else. I give a few options: For seafood lovers, I recommend 'Milos Estiatorio’ based at the Hilton but is a totally private business. ‘Orizontes’ the restaurant on top of the Lycabettus hill is another alternative with an open terrace in summer, Mediterranean cuisine, seafood . ‘Avocado’ for vegetarians, ‘To Trikyklo’ a favourite of mine for this extra touch of genuine Greek hospitality -mention my name if you wish. Greek meze, non-touristy, good value.

OVERALL EXPERIENCE: It is true that a hotel’s stay has to do with level of service, good food, friendliness and overall professionalism. This is what counts after all isn’t it? Repeaters like me know well how to appreciate all the above which I found here. If you are a person whose demands are similar to mine, then this is the unique place for your stay. The overall experience proved the best choice for our own short break. Why not for you also?
