Dining at the Blu

Larnaka Cyprus, Larnaka, Cyprus
THE BLU CAFÉ:AMBIENCE: The outdoor seating overlooks the
beautiful square of Saint Lazarus . The café is a bit more expensive than other
cafes in the round area but let’s not forget that it is a hotel’s café and not
a coffee shop in the neighborhood isn’t it?
The classic color combination of the interior
makes it look sophisticated, chic and timeless. When night falls and with the
lights on and the nice wall decor the interior looks more glamorous and cozy.
SERVICE: It was great. Claudio, the skillful
young man behind the Blue was very friendly. If I remember well he was telling
us that he has already completed his studies and he is a chef in reality. I was
dining with my sister that night and our order was brought promptly, but we were
the only customers that night so I can’t tell how efficient the service is.
RESTAURANT - DINING:
I was staying in the hotel for 3 nights when I
came across the menu list of the restaurant and thought to give it a try since I
had a complimentary dinner for 2 persons included in the stay . Normally for 2 there are 2 main and a salad. I
was ready to order the 2nd main course when Claudio informed me that
the salmon salad was considered a main dish in my case. Of course it did not
bother me because as a Food Critic I just nibble only to taste, but I was
surprised until I saw the huge salad that indeed looked like a normal main
dish. If I had known that I would do with the side dish instead of a separate salad
and try 2 main courses instead of one. So, have that in mind. Salads are filling
on their own.
The Salmon salad (lettuce, lollo rosso, smoked
salmon, honey sprinkled with oil & pesto dressing) 90% was chopped lettuce,
topped with several very thin slices of salmon. I had a bit more expectations
with the taste. (€12.35)
The Grilled Salmon presentation was ok but
looked a bit poor in the big dish that was presented in. The taste did not
excite me either since both salmon and steamed vegetables were not fresh but
frozen. As a food critic I was absolutely sure that everything was frozen but I
asked Claudio just to be assured and I was right . Anyone could tell anyway! (€14.75).
MENU LIST: 5 choices in all. The Greek and
Ceasar Salads cost €8.90, with the Salmon the most expensive but also Chicken
Ceasar at €11.90.
BURGERS: 4 choices ranking from €8.90 the
Burger blue and the Burger Supreme for €10.90 being the most expensive.
SANDWICHES: 5 choices ranking from €7.50 –the Halloumi
cheese pitta, & Club sandwich at €8.90.
WRAPS: 3 choices ranking from €8.50 the Tuna
& €9.50 the Salmon one.
PIZZA: 4 choices ranking from €9.75 the Pizza
blu to €10.25 the Quatro formaggi.
MAIN: 7 different choices with Carbonara at
€8.90, Chicken a la crème at €13.75, Blu fish fillet at €9.90, and the Salmon I
had being the most expensive one.
KIDS: Junior Burger and Chicken nuggets for
€4 .90.
SIDES: French fries, Salad, Soup of the day or
Steamed Vegetables.
DESSERTS: I cannot tell of the taste since I
did not try any, but on the list there are 3 or 4 choices that stand out –Baklava,
Warm Apple pie and the homemade Chocolate lava. All 3 are accompanied by a
scoop of ice cream. The Cake of the day being the cheapest alternative (€2.50)
and the chocolate lava (€5.90). There is
of course a variety of ice cream flavors at €1.25 per scoop.
IN ALL: Worth giving it a try.
