Eclectic Menu, Superb Service!

Fontana is an all-day dining restaurant that serves a delicious mixture of cuisine from all around the world with choice from the international buffet or the à la carte menu .

Once again back here and dining with a friend.

I happen to know Andreas Georgiou, the Executive Chef of the Cyprus Hilton for years and he is always courteous, obliging and efficient. He dropped by for a while to welcome me back and we had a short chat. I grabbed the opportunity to let him recommend one or two options out of the à la carte menu. I always rely on his choices as I know they are varied and designed to meet, satisfy and please the preferences of his demanding guests.

AMBIENCE/SERVICE: The atmosphere was intimate and perfect and intimate. The service like always excellent.

THE FIRST COURSE:

We had the Halloumi Cheese Salad. Normally the deep fried cheese is paired with hiromeri ham and cherry tomatoes, but the Chef substituted the ham with a refreshing piece of watermelon making it as light as possible, just as I requested and still mouthwatering . It was a delight! (€13.00)

The Salad with Baked Goat Cheese, lettuce leaves, walnuts, dried figs, cranberry and honey vinaigrette accompanied by a balsamic vinegar was our second choice. Think of chewy slightly charred crust goat cheese! The grilling really changes the flavour and texture of it and it goes so well with the dry fruit and cranberry sweetness. Another great choice! (€18.00)

BEVERAGE: We accompanied our meal with Petritis Xynisteri wine from Kyperounta. Glass (€8.00) Bottle (€29.00).

THE MAIN COURSE:

After the Chef's recommendation I had the Roast Fillet of pork with Hiromeri Ham, parsley, accompanied with Steamed vegetables. The meat was absolutely delicious and the *Commandaria sauce added a more 'round’ tasty result. An absolutely stellar dish! (€23 .00)

My friend had the Baked Salmon with Roasted caper sauce. Cooked to perfection, the salmon was juicy and flavoursome the steamed vegetables crunchy and the herbed potato simply yummy! Both dishes are highly recommended! (€29.00)

The following day some friends who dine here regularly dropped by to see me and they spoke highly of the Grilled Lamb chops (€33.00) describing it as a sublime dish, as well as the Chicken Filet, being tender and extremely tasty. (€22.00)

The very last night of my stay I tried the Mushroom Risotto with forest mushrooms, truffle oil and parmesan cheese. It was absolutely over the top! (€24.00)

*Commandaria is an exclusively Cypriot dessert wine with a flavor as rich as its history. It is perhaps the oldest wine of the world.

DESSERT:

Out of 6 choices we asked for something refreshing and as light as possible .

The Coconut Panna cotta with Raspberry sauce proved to be the right choice. A real delight, with an exotic flavor. (€6.00)

We also had the Fresh Fruit platter with sliced seasonal fruit, cool and refreshing. (€13.00)

The Strawberry Tiramisu is at €8.00 while the Chocolate mousse at €7.00 and the Hot Chocolate & Forest Fruit cake is recommended for the ones with a sweet tooth. The latter is accompanied with chocolate sauce/vanilla ice cream and costs (€10.00). My friend prefers the Home-made Apple pie for €9.00 she said and she prefers it with Vanilla Ice cream while her husband with Whipped Cream on the side.

IN ALL: Our courses were as near perfect as you are likely to get….excellent, natural ingredients; well prepared, beautifully presented and perfectly proportioned . Locals keep coming back aware of its great value. So, if you need an excuse to have a relaxed night out with friends, your family or partner, this is the right place to be.
