The Wonders of Norway

Bergen, Vestland, Norway
.
Elenka and I were walking the streets of Bergen, when I noticed a young woman depositing large pieces of cardboard into what looked like a futuristic garbage bin. The bin was large, but not nearly large enough to handle all of her cardboard. She saw me staring, so I asked her what she was doing. She fired some gobbledegook at me about vacuums; I nodded and hurried off — Google would know the answer. Upon returning to our hotel room I went straight to the Ipad and asked for a real explanation. After a jaw-dropping short read, I took a snapshot of the eight step recycling/process. Please do take a moment to read the attached orangey/grey photo. Beside it you will also find shots of the young woman and the refuse machines.

Tipping is not part of the traditional Norwegian culture. The primary reason for this is that Norwegian employees, from all walks of life, are paid a good living wage. It is in fact often considered demeaning to offer tips to people for simply doing their job.
.
There’s a dedicated tram/streetcar line which will take you on a wonderful ride to the airport from Bergen’s city-centre. The trams depart every five minutes on this 45 minute journey.
.
We arrived home yesterday afternoon. I woke up this morning wondering if tipping should be universally banned. And if Norway might really be in another solar system. Bergen makes the CTU look and feel like the TV series, ’Deadwood’.

The benefits of a massive financial surplus. A percentage of which is available to successive administrations for infrastructure and social projects. When the Norwegians found oil, it was nationalised. They are all reaping the benefits, not some multi national and their shareholders.
