The Norwegians are so kind. They pronounce the word fjords, fee-jords, so we poor anglophones will understand.
Not in my wildest dreams would I have thought food would trump fjords in Norway. Elenka and I have especially been gorging ourselves on different desserts. Just yesterday, we came to the conclusion that we treasure them because they’re not so sweet. Today, during an island hike, we were befriended by a Norwegian woman; I told her of the dessert conundrum. She explained that all food products in Norway that contain sugar are subject to a higher taxation rate.
.
For the past 25 years, Elenka and I have made a point of finding restaurants that specialize in duck confit. And during this time, I learned how to make a super creme brule. Last night, at the restaurant on our ship, the Trollfjord, Renatka, Elenka and I all dined on duck confit, followed by creme brule for dessert. The Trollfjord became our new leader in both departments.
To the fee-jords. I’ll let Elenka’s photos tell that story.
