It’s a seven and a half hour train ride from Oslo to Bergen. One green hill after the next, after the next, until a small patch of snow appears. The green hills slowly turn into mountains and snow can now be seen in great patches. The melting snow has created streams and waterfalls that flow down the mountain sides. The streams form white water rapids in the churning rivers that flow past and under the train. For almost three fascinating hours it feels like an amusement park ride with a view.

We’re in Bergen now. In an hour, Renatka Schönbach of Deutschland will be here. Tomorrow, we three will be off to the wild cold yonder.

Reminiscent of Petersburg, the small fishing town founded by Norwegians we visited in Southeastern Alaska a few weeks ago!

We did the fjord loop in July 2007. Ten days of rain and fog, just like home. Glad to see you traveling, hope your weather is better. All the best.

Did you know, Scotland is a piece of Norway that broke off and bumped into England?
