Barcelona, Spain, Spain and Canary Islands
The taxi to the Holiday Inn takes about ½ an hour and we look forward to a good night sleep on the new time zone. The hotel staff direct us to a close by restaurant on La Rambla that is unfortunately closed for dinner.   Nearby another place fits the bill and we enjoy a much anticipated dinner of Paella and local Barcelona wine. The wine on the menu costs 18.00 euro and is a 2004 vintage. We think it is a great bargain as the quality is excellent. The next morning a nearby grocery store is selling the same wine for only 3.00 euro.   After the complementary continental breakfast at the hotel, we trek off to the Familia Sagria – Guadi Cathedral. Much progress has been made since we were here 9 years ago. The building seems bigger and more ornate than what we had remembered. We return to the hotel, check out, taxi to the cruise terminal, check in and we are on board for the first leg of our cruise. Lunch and dinner are both excellent and we meet some wonderful travelers including a couple from Toronto and a 70+ British lady professor. The show is a take off on ABBA then an Acrobatic Duo. Both shows are entertaining. Our cabin offers a restful night as the ship makes its way to Gibraltar.
