We have all day on the shore front to explore the old ships and restaurants around the cruise terminal. We are able to drop our luggage off at around noon and make our way for a tour of the aircraft carrier Midway. The ship is massive and comes with an incredible history. Our tour guide is a retired sailor named Bill who gives us an insight not of the function of the ship but some of the personnel interactions. The hangar decks and the top deck are covered in vintage and jet aircraft.  
Lunch is at a fantastic restaurant called the Fish Market. Outside is a huge statue of a sailor hugging his girl saying goodbye. 
 
We board the Spirit at around 4 PM and find this cruise is going to be different. The younger crowd, the different ship layout and choice of entertainment are not quite anticipated. We have met a wonderful couple from San Diego and that makes the trip interesting.
