Rehoboth, Central Plateau, Namibia
Day 3-050
8 hrs, 3 .9 kms
Day Totals: 16 hrs, 8.4 kms

My next town up the road is Rehoboth. With its dusty dirt roads and simple homes surrounded by barbed wife fence, it reminds me more of northwest Mexico than of Arizona. Folks seem to be doing OK though...

Here there's a full oval running track in the middle of town... best spot I could find for my Parkbench concert... Finally I find the "town center" which also is a bit more run down, but not too bad...

But when the minibus finally fills up and we go to pick up a "call in" passenger, I get glimpse of the "other side" of Namibia. We go to a neighborhood where houses are nothing but flimsy sheets of metal slapped together to make tiny shacks. They look like pretty dire places to live in in the desert heat--although unlike the South African shacks, they do each have a sizeable plot of land to give them some breathing room.

I wonder... where did these people come from? Are there jobs for them here in Rehoboth? What kind of future do these people have?

I have much more I want to learn about this country.
