1955. High up the Mountains

Walillabou, Saint Patrick, Grenadines/St Vincent
1 hr, 2 kms

I've gotten much better conditioned for hiking in jungle heat that I was on my first discouraging day in Trinidad, but this next climb does put me to the test . I take frequent breaks, and make determine my goal for the day: hiking all the way to Barrouaillie, the next major town.

Finally I reach the highlands, where there are a couple of little scattered hamlets, and a beautiful view of seemingly endless jungle covered valleys and mountains. From here, St Vincent certainly does not look like an overcrowded island, but rather a raw, unexplored jungleland.

Next begins the long descent. Along the way there's a touristy site--a waterfall, but as I can see from the outside, it's not very impressive at all, so I decide to just continue on my way.

Wallilabou has as it's claim to fame as being the site for some of the Pirates of the Caribbean filming. I can see why--if you want lush jungle mountains and coastline, this is the place to do it.
