A visit and lunch in 'Historic Plymouth'

Plymouth, England, United Kingdom
This morning it was raining! It was supposed to lift by 11.00am, so we decided to trust the weather man and go into Plymouth. We were keen to have another visit to Plymouth, but couldn't believe it was a similar day to our visit 32 years ago. Raining! Brenda drove and we put the two guys in the back. They were very good back seat drivers!

We parked as close as we could to 'The Hoe' and walked to the War Memorial. There were still a few spots of rain, but it did look like it may lift. We walked around and imagined Sir Francis Drake playing bowls on the Hoe, waiting for the enemy to get closer! There weren't many people around, so we pretty much had 'Plymouth Hoe' to ourselves.

Unfortunately Cliffs leg started to ache. Sunday was the first day he had driven since he broke his leg down near the ankle, at the beginning of June. Cliff has a plate and screws in his right leg, about the same place as Peter, but thankfully he didn't break it as badly as Peter. We decided there was absolutely no point in Cliff pushing it, so we made our way back to the car and Brenda found her way down to the Barbican Quay, and more importantly found somewhere close to park. This area of Plymouth has only been developed since 1998. It is the old fishing area of Plymouth and this was where all the tourists were! Not on the 'Hoe'.

We went to Brenda and Cliff's favourite fish and chip take away or sit in cafe for lunch and three of us had an alcohol beverage with our meal. Very enjoyable it was too! Fed and watered we wandered around Sutton Harbour reading about the historic events of this very important Port of England. If Cliff was still struggling with his leg, he didn't let on. The day had cleared and the sun was shining.

By 3.00pm we were all ready for home. Travelling back via Tavistock, we parked in Bedford Square and walked to the main street where the photo shop was. Muriel's grandson Jake works there. With two hundred photos ordered it was more than a ten minute job, so we decided Peter and I would come back the next day to collect them. It would give us an opportunity to have more of a look around. We had left Cliff back at the car. We couldn't resist the ice-cream van in Bedford Square. Once again we have made the comment "We are on holidays and we will address the increase in weight when we get home"! A very enjoyable day with Cliff and Brenda.
