A visit to Aunty Kath's & Kit Hill

Callington, England, United Kingdom
Peter went down with Cliff this morning to the woodland where he and Sam are members of a 'Shoot Club' near Callington. Members are rostered weekly to feed the pheasants and this week Cliff is doing the morning feed and Sam does the afternoon feed on his way home from work in Plymouth. Sam is a marine engineer and he works at the Plymouth Naval Dock. When they got back at 10, Brenda and I were still sitting at the table talking!

We both did our ironing and Peter was given the task of putting the photos into the mini albums. We did finish them later in the day together.

After lunch we went to visit Aunty Kath at her home in Callington. Muriel came over and as we chatted, I was able to add a few more of the younger generation to the family tree.

On the way back to 'Chicksands' (name of Brenda and Cliffs home) we decided it was an opportunity to go up to Kit Hill. A visit to Harrowbarrow is not complete without a visit to Kiit Hill and not always is it clear enough to get great views. The Batten girls spent many hours playing at Kit Hill in 1955. Peter says he got left behind because he was too little and couldn't keep up. I bet he was 'trying'! Maybe the girls thought this was the case in more ways than one! Peter remembers they played 'Arrow Chasey' with Colin. We couldn't see Harrowbarrow from the hill. It was down in the hollow, but it is quite a distance and there is no way you would ever let your children go that far these days. They walked across the fields and would have had to cross the road that goes to Callington. All of Peter's cousins talk of the great holidays with their grandparents in Harrowbarrow.

Home in time to change before going out to dinner in Devon with Cliff, Brenda, James, Sam and the boys partners Becky and Polly. James and Becky have been together for 4 or 5 years. They recently backpacked in Thailand and Vietnam for about 3 months. Maybe we will see them in Australia in the not too distant future. They have it on their 'Bucket List'! They are renovating a cottage on Becky's parents farming property, which runs down to the ocean near Widemouth Bay in Cornwall.

We dined at a very popular pub just over the Horsebridge, having crossed the Tamar river and this then took us from Cornwall to Devon. It was another very enjoyable and memorable evening. It was great to spend some time with the Boundy boys and meet their partners.
