Boundy family gathering with the Aussies

Launceston, England, United Kingdom
We awoke to grey skies and the forecast was for the day to deteriorate. And that it did! By 11.00am we were having quite heavy showers and Sam's cricket match was called off. We spent a leisurely morning looking down to a very bleak Plymouth from the front room of Cliff and Brenda's. I set the laptop up on the dining table in the lounge and caught up on a bit of computer work. The Boundy lounge, with it's big front window, is a very relaxing room. There are views down to the estuary at Plymouth. There is a big tree in the front garden, to the right of the front window, and Brenda puts feed out for the birds each day. She has a few pairs of binoculars on the window sill and she records the different birds that visit her garden. There have been a couple of different ones that we have spotted during our stay. And tried to capture on the camera!

About 11.30am Brenda came into the lounge and asked if we fancied a little aperitif before lunch. This was a new word for me, my vocabulary has been broadened. It is a pre-dinner drink. Brenda asked if we would like a Campari! Another new word and drink! The guys decided they would try it and as I was on the laptop, it became part of the discussion that I would research 'Campari'. It was a drink drunk by the posh people many years ago. That brought a few comments and laughs. It is an alcoholic liqueur, obtained from the infusion of herbs and fruit in alcohol and water. It is a 'bitter', characterised by its dark red colour. It is produced by a multi-national company based in Italy. Brenda and I enjoyed it, but the guys decided one was enough! Brenda had made a delicious shepherds pie for lunch and we had those scrumptious English beans as well.

In the afternoon we travelled to the 'Winds of Change Pub' near Launceston which is owned by Peter's cousin Valerie (nee Boundy) and her husband Mike. It was pouring with rain when we left home, but not too bad when we did arrive. Many of the Boundy family came together to share the afternoon with the 'Aussies'. It was a lovely afternoon. Sylvia and Alan came from near Gloucester and to our delight Gill (nee Batten) and Carl surprised us by coming down from York. Carl has a friend in Cornwall and a family member was having an engagement party the next day. They had had a terrible trip on the motorway, with the weather and traffic. We were all so pleased to see them, especially Aunty Kath. It was a very special 'family get together'. Gill, Marilyn and Sylvia enjoyed telling us stories of their holidays together at Jasmine Cottage with Gran and Granddad Batten. And the fun they had got up to! Thank you so much 'Boundy Family'. It was a lovely afternoon.
