Our flight arrived relatively on time around 11:30am and we quickly got
through the arrival formalities. Our
prebooked Blackberry car was waiting.
It took close to an hour to drive from Heathrow to our hotel, Park Plaza
Westminster Bridge. We have stayed here
previously so knew what to expect. Our
driver was very chatty and totally not politically correct, which is quite
refreshing.
My review of the Park Plaza Westminster can be read here: https://www.tripadvisor.com.au/ShowUserReviews-g186338-d1657415-r466414424-Park_Plaza_Westminster_Bridge_London-London_England.html
Once we arrived at the Park Plaza we faced a long wait for checking in
but eventually got to our room with a lovely view of the top half of the London
Eye. We quickly showered and walked
outside to a damp, drizzly London day.
After crossing Westminster Bridge, our first stop was to top up our
Oyster Cards at Westminster Tube station.
It was our first time using the machines as the last trip we had a paper
travel card. My parents had given us
their cards from their trip earlier in the year. It was simple to top them up.
We went for a brisk walk towards Trafalgar Square, eventually ending up
at the Charles Tyrwhitt store in Jermyn Street where G was interested in
looking at some of their shirts as he frequently buys them online.
We then headed back towards Trafalgar Square in persistent drizzle to
visit the St Martin in the Field church.
We were feeling fairly tired by then after no sleep for 24 hours so
headed back to the hotel. We had
Executive Lounge access with our room which meant we received complimentary
snacks, cocktails and wine or spirits with a sensational view over Westminster
Bridge to Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament.
We spent a relaxing hour having a couple of
glasses of wine before heading to the hotel restaurant Brasserie Joel for an
earlyish, by our standards, dinner. Our
meal of pork belly was fairly uninspiring but we were dead on our feet so
didn’t really care. We were in bed
asleep by 10:00pm
