Sagrada Familia and Park Guell

Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain and Canary Islands
A very big walking day today!
Our day started with our prebooked visit to Sagrada Familia.   We walked all the way there, which was around a thirty-minute walk.
We enjoyed our visit to the Church, although it is not the prettiest building we have seen and never have I been in a church that seemed less churchlike.  We also climbed the Passion Tower to see the views, although we saw much better views from other vantage points.
After leaving Sagrada Familia, we made the long trek on foot to Park Guell.  We had read many times on the forum that the Gracia area was lovely to walk through.  Well, we must have gone the wrong way, even though Google maps said that we were in Gracia, as it really wasn’t particularly attractive.
Eventually we reached the park, only to find that it had started to rain quite heavily.  We didn’t have to wait long to get in and we managed to view the Monumental area quite well in the rain.  We would have loved to explore the park itself, which really did look very nice, but unfortunately the weather was totally against us.  We also missed the opportunity to visit Casa del Guarda, which was included in our ticket price, due to a wait of around one hour, according to the sign.  It was still raining fairly heavily and most of the queuing would not be under cover.
After leaving the Park, we were starving so found a small restaurant not too far away.  We were well aware of the usual rules of avoiding eating next to famous sites, but in the case, due to hunger and rain we took the risk.  It really wasn’t too bad, I had some tapas – croquetas, tortilla and G had a paella that he enjoyed.
We headed back to our hotel again through Gracia area.  Luckily the rain had stopped and we found an amazing old house along the way called Fundacio Julio Munoz.  The house was closed although the gardens were open so we had a wander through them. We walked up Passeig de Gracia for another look before some predinner drinks and people watching at Txapela.
This was the final evening of our holiday so we splurged with dinner at Torre de Alta Mar.  We had a fantastic meal with beautiful wines for a very reasonable price.  The views along the beaches of Barcelona were quite stunning as were the city views.  Would definitely visit again if we get back to Barcelona.
