Today was a day off from tourist sightseeing. Both our daughter S, and our other daughter,
also named S, had lived and worked in the UK.
They both worked at a local pub in Weybridge, Surrey. I had been to the pub before, but G never
had, so S, G and I hopped on a train and headed to Weybridge.
As it was Sunday, it was also an opportunity for G to have a traditional
Sunday lunch. We had been advised that
the Hand and Spear was one of the best places in Weybridge to eat Sunday lunch
and that certainly proved true. We met
my mother’s friend E at the restaurant and the four of us had a delicious lunch
– perfectly cooked and carved rare roast beef, roast vegetables, greens and
best of all, huge Yorkshire puddings – totally delicious. We also had some red wine and finished up
with apple and cranberry crumble.
After our lunch we walked to the British Volunteer through the Weybridge
countryside in drizzly rain. We
certainly needed the walk after the food we had consumed!
The rest of the afternoon was spent at the British Volunteer meeting the
owners, other staff and all the locals that popped in that day. A very enjoyable afternoon was had by all.
We then headed back to the station and caught the train back to
London. We went straight to the hotel
and as we were still full of lunch, we sat in the bar and had ham and cheese
toasties before an early night.
