Today was a quiet travel day.
Luckily the tube strike was over or travel might have been a
nightmare. We caught a cab to St.
Pancras for our Eurostar to Paris. We arrived
around 1:00pm and we were picked up at Gare du Nord by the shuttle from our
hotel. We have had long queues for cabs
on previous trips and the shuttle was a reasonable price so we used it. Obviously, the metro would be far cheaper but
with a large case each plus a carry on the shuttle won.
We checked in to our hotel, where we had stayed before, the Hotel St.
Louis en L’Ile, dumped our bags and headed to the corner to our favourite
French café, the Café St. Regis. We had
a glass of wine with Croque Monsieurs – delicious.
My review of the hotel can be found here: https://www.tripadvisor.com.au/ShowUserReviews-g187147-d219996-r466414863-Hotel_Saint_Louis_en_l_Isle-Paris_Ile_de_France.html
The rest of the afternoon was spent wandering Ile St. Louis and Ile de
la Cite. We revisited all our favourite
spots from previous trips and organised our Museum Passes and a carnet of metro
tickets before dinner a couple of doors from our hotel at Aux Anysetiers du Roy. I had classic French food Boeuf
Bourgignon and Crème Brulee which were both as good as I remembered from
previous trips.
