Fine & sunny, 14-30deg, 78km av 15.5km/h (tot 508km). Summer has arrived in Europe, although it did not seem that hot.
Awoke to another brilliant morning and the sound of ravens and pigeons on the roof of the nearby church . Quite a change from the Rainbow Lorikeets and Galahs, etc in our garden at home. Good early brekky (6:45) and away by 7:45am.
Our first port of call was the Rhine Falls. Although modest by world standards they are European's biggest. We viewed them from the Swiss side initially then crossed back into Germany over a nearby bridge where we found an even better and closer view. This was all in the first 5km of the day.
This section of the Rhine is not fully serviced by bicycle paths along the river so we had to choose one of the many inland routes. The one we decided on turned out to be a bit of a mixed bag. We enjoyed some fantastic paths through farms, (mainly grain crops) forests and villages and others not so good where we had to be on the road mixing it with the trucks and cars. We must say that the local drivers were very careful around us and at no time did we feel in danger. Although Wendy doesn't do roads normally so she was less comfortable. The odd hill thrown in made for a moderately difficult day. The ride today puts us in the Bavarian Black Forest region.
We survived the day and were checked into our motel by 2:30pm. Greg stayed here in 2012 and ate in the in-house restaurant which was very nice. Unfortunately it's not open tonight so we will eat out. Last night ended up being Chinese, tonight Italian, so multi-cultural us Aussies. 4.7km walk (return) into town for dinner put us both into a good frame of mind for sleeping.
