Amalfi - Day 1

Sunday, May 21, 2017
Amalfi Coast, Campania, Italy
We were awoken at 7am by the church bells, that did not seem to ever stop........After a very pleasant breakfast on level 5 terrace over looking the duomo (church) we (Sandra, Gay & I) moved rooms while Di & Ursula shopped & did their own thing.

The 3 of us decided to go for a walk & we set off towards the southern point . Walking along the roadway is almost a death wish in Italy....but there are no footpaths so to get the best view we needed to take the risk of being hit by a crazy Italian bus driver...

As you can see from some of the pics the risk was worth it!!!

However as we approached Atrani we decided not to walk the tunnel that lead t the city so instead took the prose built concrete tunnel back under the cliffs to the back lanes of Amalfi where we weaved our way past the locals front doors that open direct onto the lane / roadway.

On arriving back in the town square we decided coffee & cake was our reward for surviving our trek.

Urs & Di soon joined us & we decided to explore the upper levels of Amalfi. More amazing views & photo opportunities. Such a beautiful town.

After the walking it was time for lunch & of course more prosecco....followed by gelato on the duomo steps.

A walk around the harbour & some souvenir shopping took up the rest of the afternoon, then of course it was time for......another prosecco. This time on our roof top terrace with the goodies we bought, such as local cheeses, prosciutto, olives & more.

A beautiful warm night spent chatting, laughing admiring the fabulous view.

PS: having trouble with pics will upload later.
