A hidden Gem

Orchha, Madhya Pradesh, India
Orchha means hidden place and it certainly is a hidden gem. A small village on a bend in the river and a former capital of a small Indian Kingdom that only joined India in 1950. Today we visited the royal cenotaphs across the road from the hotel and spotted the vultures on the roof.
A short stroll into town and over a dilapidated bridge to the former royal palaces one of which was built to receive the mogul who built the Taj Mahal .it took 22 years to build and he only stayed 1 night. Really beautiful frescoes in the rooms and fantastic views of the countryside including the huge bend in the river which we had a white water ride on a rib later in the day. Another visit for lunch to the local cafe watching the world go by before we returned home to the hotel for a well earned beer.
In the evening we all went to a local family for an Indian cooking demonstration and had a delicious meal and the recipes! Then it was off to the railway station for an overnight train to Varanasi.
