Sunday sleep in, woke to a glorious day of blue skies and little fluffy clouds. Caravan sites are good for two reasons you can have lovely hot showers till your skin wrinkles, wash your hair and do your laundry. The laundry is expensive £4.00 for 30 minute wash and £1.00 for15 minutes in the dryer which is useless after 30 minutes the clothes are still damp even on the hot cycle and as usual the motorhome looks like a laundromat with tops and micro towels hanging everywhere.
With no internet we changed pitches for another night only to find it is hit and miss to get a signal. Time to take to the bikes and cycle around the Ferry Meadows Country Park like all the other people at the caravan site. Sunday is very busy in the Park families are out in their droves having picnics or BBQ’s, kids playing had our bells in overdrive cycling on the pathway to Overton Lake. The café and shops are busy, people on the little jetties feeding the ducks and swans, there are even long boats or barges moored on the lake (one can get there by the River Nene under the Ham Bridge).
The kids are lucky with natural interesting playgrounds to climb.
While cycling round Overton Lake we stopped a few times to watch the men fishing, so much equipment they have a trolley for all their rods and fishing equipment. I have never seen fishing this way, the men have a little platform they sit on in the water by the shoreline with their rods, tackle box. It’s an enjoyable ride around the lake and over the Ham Bridge with sheep grazing in Heron Meadow on the other side.
Just past Overton Lake and the Pontoon Bridge we stop again this time at the larger Gunwade Lake to watch a row of chaps fishing (nothing was caught in the time we were there) plus talk to a couple from Norfolk where we are heading next and they mentioned some places to see. Apparently the skies are beautiful, if it doesn’t rain and the land is flat, good for cycling.
Found the big Leyland Car Rally and Richard was in his element with all the old cars from the 60’s, the Austin Healy’s, Morris Mina’s, 1100, Mini’s, Rover’s, Triumphs and the Austin Healy 3000 his Dad wouldn't let him have as a young lad.
There was also a Swap Mart for accessories and parts for the old cars. Could wander around there all day looking at the old cars, even saw the model MG Tim once drove.
The worms are biting and with directions from the caravan site minus our bikes cause the Warden said there has been a lot of theft and vandalism, we walk 5 or so minutes along the road to The Granary Beefeater for a delicious roast lamb and Yorkshire pudding lunch/dinner followed by a Rocky Road Sundae, what little pigs but this means no dinner for me to cook.
The clouds are rolling in and the blue sky is slowly vanishing, I hope tomorrow is sunny so we can ride to Peterborough tomorrow to see about fixing the two small stone chips on the front windscreen. This happened when we were coming from Ashbourne, a semi flicked a small stone up when passing by.
Time to rest the stomach seeing we still have no internet.
