Bull tasting.....

Benicasim, Valencian Country, Spain and Canary Islands
Our holiday this year was aimed at "just living", so several days were spent on site with either a walk, a cycle ride or simply sitting in the sun. Today I went to Spanish lessons down in Reception but found it of limited value: we were given 2 A4 sheets with 42 (yes, 42!) pictures on and a list of 42 job titles, the object being to match the job to the appropriate picture with no real help. I made a reasonable job of it as quite a few titles were very similar to French, but I really can't see the relevance of knowing Spanish for an architect or a spy!

We got a leaflet about the fiesta activities and went back into town to see what on earth “Bull Tasting” was (the mind boggles!). It turned out to be the distribution of a beef stew with vegetables, cooked in a giant pan and stirred by some of the little princesses from last night with the longest ladle I have ever seen at about 2m; they obviously had the honour of the ceremonial stirring then helped to serve the stew. The whole market place had a real buzz and was filled with happy people eating & drinking, but as the queue was nearly 100m long we decided to pass on the tasting.

The bar at the site has Happy Hour (well, 2 hours really) from 4-6pm when a large beer is €2 and a large wine only €1.60. We felt it would be rude not to partake, so we did. This would become a regular fixture!
