An important birthday

Benicasim, Valencian Country, Spain and Canary Islands
Birth Day, and a beautiful sunny day for Hubby to officially become a pensioner; we started the day with breakfast and card opening as I'd brought all the pre-delivered cards with us. When he went to the showers I shot out & strung various garlands up in the awning (thank you Chinese shop) and found Nina must have crept across in the dead of night to string up balloons. He returned, stopped in horror at the back of the car as his pride & joy (which had been cleaned yesterday to within an inch of its life) had been splat upon by an extremely incontinent bird – and DIDN’T NOTICE the decorations staring him in the face!

We were going down to the Torreon for a lunch/snack so since the cycling had been so nice this week, we mounted our bikes and rode there. It was Sunday and the day when the Parque del Trenet was operational, so off we went to see the little train. Its a kids’ paradise, with 2 little ride-on steam trains going round a lovely park with tunnels, curves and a viewing rock.

The Torreon had a deal for Sunday: a cana of beer plus a plate of tapas for €1.80....well, it would have been rude not to partake J Back at the site we spent a while clearing/decorating the awning as we were hosting drinks & nibbles for 12 of our friends to celebrate the birthday; I made some jugs of sangria & we had wine & beer too, so nobody was going to be thirsty and even better, no-one had to drive home.

It was a lovely occasion, with lots of chat, the drinks and nibbles courtesy of Mercadona. I’d got a cake (which was hidden in Nina’s awning) to finish things off, and I think everyone enjoyed themselves as they were still partying nearly 3 hours later. R had some great cards and several kind people had brought him a bottle too.

We walked into town with D & N for our celebratory meal at the Sicilian restaurant di Filippo & found it nearly empty – but it was no problem as the food was excellent and the waiter service very attentive. I had possibly the best cannelloni I’ve ever had, and the others echoed my thoughts about their dishes too. It was a great end to a lovely day and R felt thoroughly birthdayed, which was the whole point.
