Cycling to Oropesa

Oropesa Del Mar, Valencian Country, Spain and Canary Islands
We were really into cycling by now and decided to ride northwards to Oropesa on the wonderful Greenway which runs behind the site. It was formerly the railway track until a new station was built on the edge of town (consequently needing a new line) and is now a dedicated path for walkers and cyclists.

Having crossed the main road, the track rises up a short steep hill (VERY short, thankfully!) and is mostly flat the whole 5km to Oropesa. The views are excellent, with red rocks, coves and of course the Mediterranean Sea. There are several towers en route and information boards about the railway, the flora and fauna, so it was an interesting ride.

Oropesa is a nice little town with 2 beach coves, a short palm-fringed promenade and a tourist information centre that looks like a lighthouse. We stopped for a drink of water and a rest underneath those palm trees, then made our way back through the cuttings and views.

Dave & Nina were hosting dinner in their awning tonight, so after a shower we made the 3metre
trip to their van. We had a great bbq (a belated birthday for Dave, who had become a pensioner on the journey down through France) then had to sit in silence during dessert as we had a torrential rainstorm – it was so loud we couldn’t hear each other speak.
