Benicasim, Valencian Country, Spain and Canary Islands

Another bike ride today, this time a “guided” one with Dave & Nina leading the way southwards through the town of Benicassim towards Castillon, but stopping at the obelisk on the promenade - they have been many times but it was our first one. The cycle path through town is great, as its a traffic-free one with a small kerb separating cyclists from the cars. It continues as a dedicated path through various areas, then the prom is accessed via a short section on the road.

In the south of town the promenade itself again has a dedicated track, separate even from the walkers – ALL towns should have tracks like this. As we approached the obelisk, the sky over the sea got darker & darker until the sea looked a really pale turquoise in comparison. We decided we really didn’t want to ride during the approaching storm, so we pedalled back approximately twice as quickly as we’d come.

Yes the storm brought torrential rain, but fortunately it was only short-lived and cleared up in time for our thrice-weekly boules games. Today my team was GB/D/NL playing GB/NL/BEL, so a truly international pitch. I’m very glad to say we won, and of course Happy Hour followed in due course - I think I've said that before.....
