Marina D'Or by night

Marina d'Or, Valencia, Spain and Canary Islands
After a busy day yesterday, we had a chilled day around the site with just a bike ride to the train station to get our tickets for our forthcoming trip to Valencia. At night we decided to revisit Marina D'Or as there would be a parade at 10pm, and 8 of us made the trip.

We looked round the park to which we’d taken Keith & Sue – it looked very different by night of course, not half as impressive and outshone by the street decorations which were everywhere. It was still really warm, as proved later by the LED readout: 19°C at 22.45!

This time the decorations were illuminated and brought the whole place to life – sort of Costa Las Vegas with a bit of Blackpool thrown in. The streets looked lovely so we paused for a coffee in a bar while we waited for the procession to begin, then stood & watched as the road was closed to traffic and floats drove past. They were very impressive, each one being decked out with thousands of LED lights of every colour imaginable, plus acrobats and characters walking alongside.

Possibly the most impressive was a dragon with several heads which each billowed out smoke, but all were interesting to see and very colourful. Blackpool, please take note: crowds of visitors will go to see tableaux, but even more would go to see illuminated floats. Walking back to the car, I noticed quite a few zebra crossings which made me think of the Beatles’ Abbey Road cover – so I made our men recreate it....fortunately they were game to do it, but the Beatles really did it much better!
