Cancun, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico
Jumped aboard bus marked R1, paid the 9.50 pesos / NZ $ .90c / US $ .70 (don’t know why they just didn’t make it a round 10 pesos) and hoped that it was going in the right direction. Yes it was ... along Boulevard Kukulkan and the nearly 30 kms hotel strip. Boy this guy only knows one speed and it is not slow! Trying to take photos with palm trees in the median strip was fun (not).

At the end I was the only one left, the driver motioned me off but another R1 bus came along for the return trip in next to no time. Jumped on board, paid another 9.5 pesos / NZ $ .90c / US $ .70 and got much better shots of the hotels as again we whizzed by at times break neck speed … well not quite but at times it felt like he also was trying to break the trip record.

Caught the ferry from one of the 3 terminals ($17 US or 280 pesos) in the hotel zone which cost twice that of getting on at Puerto Juarez (140 pesos) over to Isla Mujeres (Island of Women).

Ended up at North Beach.

My reflection is Cancun is a world of two halfs. The morning and afternoon saw how the tourists lived and relaxed but as I walked the hour back to the hotel in Cancun central saw how the locals worked, shopped and were transported around by the local much poorer condition buses and smaller collective vans along roads that needed much repair work.
