Stanley, Falkland Islands
Of all the places on this earth one would never expect to seE, the Falkland Islands have to be the place. We are greeted by a an outer harbour where numerous ships, both derelicts and active are tied up. It seems some of the ships that had attempted Antarctic explorations and ran into such damage they became unrepairable and were left for salvage in the harbour. A second inner harbour is where the Port of Stanley is found. Our trip to shore is rough with waves crashing over the top of the tender. We enter the Tourist Information jetty and make the query about a long lost acquaintance from the QCl. He still lives here as does his 3 children. In short order, Bill arrives at the jetty and takes us off on an island tour, he shows us the house he has built himself, his peat stove the mined beach with the Magellan penguins. We also tour through the shops, the Anglican cathedral and the whale bone arches. Lunch is at fish and chips place with a British ale.
What a day this had been
