We always hear about the design and construction of the Panama Canal but it is a marvel to behold. We spend the entire day entering the Gatun locks at 8 am from the Caribbean Sea where we are lifted 3 times to Gatun Lake. The Island Princess is just ahead of us but is doing a U turn in the first lake and going back to the Caribbean. There are 8 locomotives attached to our ship.
The locomotives primary job is to guide the ship as there is no room for error
. We pass through the narrow gorges (cuts) as we go through the continental divide, then into Mira Flores Lake then the Mira Flores locks, past Balboa and Panama city. Then the resort islands with a the causeway Isla Naos and out into the Pacific.
