1937 Trapped in the Brush

Ratho Hill, Saint George, Grenadines/St Vincent
3 hrs, 4 kms

Right up over a ridge, I'm back in the "other" St Vincent ... a marina bay, full of yachts. Here yachties can stop by which island hopping up the West Indies--or settle down for a while. This concave bay, does seem like a bit of a bubble, isolated from the "real" St Vincent.

After strolling up the shady beach, I decide to follow a path through the forest... it leads up a grassy hill where there are scattered luxury homes... and down to another bay. This rocky bay has a very different feel--very rocky... with nothing more than a rugged trail along the side of the seacliff, which of course, I have to follow.

The problem is, on the other side I find myself at a dead end, with fenced in properties on my left, the sea on my right, and very dense brush ahead. Still not willing to turn back, I blaze my way through the brush, hoping to find a way around the fenced in properties.

The brush gets thicker and thicker... often I have to backtrack to look for another way. It's starting to look like this was a really bad idea--but I keep telling myself that going back will be at least as much work as going forward....

Finally I make it through to what looks like a church camp. A dog comes after me, but there's no turning back now... I make it through, and onto a road on the other side.

Whew.
