Meat Ants at Augathella, Teddies at Tambo

Blackall, Queensland, Australia
Mitchell to Augathella
The roads are very bumpy in part and stoppages for road works were quite frequent, no problem really if you have plenty of time, which we do .

We reached Augathella in the early afternoon and free camped opposite the Ellangowan Pub. After a cuppa we explored the town which seems to be the home of the Meat Ant - even the butcher bears its name, he even sold Hogget, much to Tonys delight.

A drink at the famed Ellangowan hotel set us up for a windy, chilly night - so Spag Bol in the protection of Bertha was the order of the night.

Augathella to Blackall
We reached Tambo by 11 am so had a good look around and a coffee next door to Tambo Teddies - this shop is world famous for its lambs wool teddies, dressed in Aussie bush clobber.

Tony's knee is still bothering him a bit, so Sue decided to give it a break from the accelerator position - and took the wheel. Not much traffic and the road had more good spots than bad, we decided to head for Blackall, where we camped in the delightful riverside camp spot - "nearly free" $5 a night, we needed to get a permit from the nearby info centre.
