for a quick look at "The Station", the gulf lander pulls in here a few times a week, and does various trips to Cairns, and shorter ones to Croyden and surrounds.

Karumba is great, Karumba town is a few minutes drive from Sunset Point, where the Sunset Caravan Park is situated - our chosen home for the next 5 days .

We took an orientation drive through town , ducked into the info centre, where we were lucky enough to encounter some red tailed black cockatoos. The bird life around here is very prolific, on the way we saw hundreds of Brolgas, Pelicans, Black hawks, Whistling Kites, plenty of other water birds and Wedge Tailed Eagles, even though the wet lands are pretty dry now.

After setting up camp, we found Mick, Larry & Lyn, and agreed to meet up at the Sunset Tavern for a drink, and to watch the legendary Karumba Sunset.

As you can see from the photos, it lived up to its reputation - so did the King Salmon and Barramundi served up at the tavern - the sky and sea got redder and redder before the full moon came out.

Great sunset, great company, great food, great location - all make for a lasting memory of a top night.
