- We had booked a tour of the 747 and 707 followed by the wing walk. All 3 were fantastic experiences and we got to see parts of the planes you would never get up close and personal to under normal circumstances.

Our guide Helen was very knowledgeable and filled our heads with heaps of facts and figures, as well as painting excellent verbal pictures of how the planes were donated to the museum and flown to Longreach for display .

The highlight of our tours was undoubtedly the Wing Walk - it must be one of the few places in the world you can walk out onto the wing of a jumbo 747 jet.

The view from there is amazing and makes you appreciate the size of these planes. This tour is a lot more than a wing walk, we got to sit in the cockpit and have an explanation of the dials and knobs, look into the tail behind the black box and see all the cables that control the tail. Then head down through the floor in the passenger cabin to the luggage holds for a walk around and a look at the electronic back up systems.

By now it is nearing 4:15pm and we are starving, so a quick visit to the cafe for tea and cake, back to to the Caravan Park, briefly, then off to the Longreach rodeo, a well attended event - we should have arrived earlier as no seats were available when we arrived at 7pm so after an hour or so standing we decided that it had been a big day and so we decided on a nightcap back at the Caravan Park.
