Julia Creek to Cloncurry
. Before heading off to Julia Creek we decided to try our hand at Fossil Finding - a Dry and Dusty Public area close to Richmond provided an interesting hour or so, hunting for Fossils in the broken rock - amazingly there a re lot of small ferns, bone etc fossilized into the rock pieces here.

A quick look around the new and modern info centre in Julia Creek, highlighted the Dunnart with a display, and video (unfortunately the video was undergoing an upgrade) these little mouse like marsupials are endangered and only found around Julia Creek, Currently the wild cats are a real threat to their already threatened existence, so much so that the authorities pay the hunters $5 a tail for every Ferrel cat tail they bring in .

Another straight road and 137 kms later we arrived in Cloncurry. mmmm - not very pretty, run down and dirty - and rather disappointing, given we were looking forward to being in a bit bigger place. Tony J tried to get his blood tested - closed and a lot of Everyday items were not available in the shops!

Anyhow, Sue, Tony & Tony L all had hair cuts, and the Oasis Caravan Park has a welcoming pool - much needed during the blisteringly hot summer afternoons.
.
Bangers and mash for supper, with a glass of King Valley Prosseco whilst enjoying a nice sunset and the local Cloncurry parrots flying over head.

29/8/2012 Cloncurry. Sadly Marg and Tony got news that Patrice, one of their grand daughters had been admitted to hospital in Brisbane, for emergency surgery - not wanting to be away from phone coverage we decided to stay in Cloncurry an extra night, this gave us time to Shop for our more remote northern leg, and generally tidy up, and relax.

Update nearly a year later - Patrice has made an amazing recovery - she is a real trooper.

That's great Sue , looks like you are having a terrific time. I promise I will not start
referring to your trip as the Fossils Tour.
