Macaw Mountain

Copan, Copán, Honduras
In the afternoon we had the option of enjoying an hour + trip up to mud hot springs which are surrounded by the lush vegetation of the surrounding hills, a horse-trek through the countryside, or go on a coffee tour of a local plantation. Most decided on the mud hot pools but having done this many times in Rotorua decided not to endure the hour plus journey back to Copan probably all wet. Actually truth be known am starting to feel a bit travel weary and it is not through the physical activity as that comes later in Costa Rica.

So Kristian and I instead of walking the short distance back to town took a tuk tuk from the ruins directly to the Macaw Mountain where those going to the mud hot pools had to be at 1.30 pm. Somehow a little bit of confusion with the agreed price but in the end US$ 3 was accepted for the two of us. If we had taken the tuk tuk from town then it would have been $US1 each. While the distance from the ruins back to town was not far, it was really nice to take the tuk tuk all the way from the ruins. Must be slowing down.

Macaw Mountain entrance fee was L 200 / NZ $ 11.80 / US $ 9.80. The 45 min guided tour climaxed with the photo opportunity of having the macaws sitting on us. Some had 3 macaws on them. We should have remembered that it was 1.30 pm feeding time but as we waited for the rest to turn up meant that the photo time at the end was a little bit rushed.

As Lisa and I were not going to the mud hot pools so we had the opportunity to revisit the macaw enclosure where we could walk into.

Took a tuk tuk back into town L 20 / NZ $ 1.20 / US 1 and passing the supermarket decided to get some provisions L 93 / NZ $ 5.50 / US $ 4.60 for tomorrow’s anticipated long 12+ hour bus / bus taxi / ferry / private van journey over to Rotatan Island.

Café San Rafael is renowned for their cheeses and coffee so for a late lunch downed a latte L 29 / NZ $ 1.70 / US $ 1.40, Person al 3 types of cheese, bread, crackers, fruit L 100 / NZ $ 5.90 / US $ 4.90 and a Pavo al mani & Queso fontina = Turkey breast in peanut sauce & melted gouda cheese L 140 / NZ $ 8.30 / US $ 6.90. So I holed up there for the rest of the afternoon.

I was uploading my day’s photos when at the very last one the power for the whole town went out! Oh well, just have to wait till another day to upload them again.

No wi fi internet connection in the hotel for my computer yet I had it for my i phone. Bizarre.

Sorry - A bit of editing / culling and rearranging of the photos still needs to be done.
