Cerro de la Cruz = Rio keep your day job

Antigua Guatemala, Sacatepéquez, Guatemala
Talking with some of the others and on their recommendations decided that I could sneak two more things in before our 10 am departure from Antigua bound for Copan in neighbouring Hondurus. I had not seen Cerro de la Cruz (viewpoint overlooking the city) nor Antigua’s no doubt colourful “chicken” bus terminal.

As Rio had not been up to the Cerro as well, we agreed to meet at 7am and take a tuk tuk up together.

I would love to know how big their engine is ... Not big at all as it really struggled to climb the steep cobble stone road upwards with the three of us on board. At times I felt like jumping out and pushing it up. No, it made it but at times the driver had to drop into first gear. Yes, it is walkable but a long walk. For what should be a L 60 to L 80 / NZ $ 3.50 to $4.70 / US $ 2.90 to $ 3.90 return ride, why walk? Saw a local runner in his hill climb! Better him than me.

Yes, the view overlooking Antigua was great but the Volcán de Agua in the distance still kept it’s top hidden from us.

After reaching the bottom of the hill, Rio was offered the opportunity to drive the tuk tuk on a quiet back street. Keep your day job. That will be a memory for him no doubt.

Hi
Bruce that guy looks pretty proud of his tuk tuk, good on him and I guess that is how he makes his living.
