Atlanta, Georgia, United States
I’m actually writing the last entry 4 days after return - time to rest up, reflect, do 10 loads of laundry, unload the RV, reorganize everything I brought home, and get Linda’s final figures from the trip (which she had been collecting and tallying on the spot throughout the trip).  We did final RV details at Fort Chiswell - dumping, refilling propane, windshield washer refill, etc. so it would be ready to go back into storage mode in Atlanta.  The dogs enjoyed their last run at the dog park, we got gas at the record low price of the trip ($2.47/gal) from the Pilot next to our campground, and we were on the road for the final stretch.  We consulted Waze, instead of my usual GPS since it was Friday before Labor Day weekend and I knew traffic issues would be bigger than the route plan.  Waze sent us on I 77 south to I 40 W into Asheville and then home via 441 and 365 into GA.  The drive is beautiful through the Asheville area, traffic was heavy until we got out the other side of Asheville - it was a nice drive into GA.  We stopped once at a pretty rest area in NC for lunch, and met a nice couple next to us who got their 3 rescue Greyhounds out of their large travel trailer.  They stopped to talk, said they were from NC and newly retired, had only been on a few short trips but were readying themselves for some full-time rv’ing to distant locations - so we compared notes, told them about some of our favorite places, and both remarked that meeting people along the way was a special bonus to this lifestyle.  We made our final gas stop in Gainesville, Ga to get Bertha home on full and pulled into Spacemax at 8pm.  Next 1 hour of unloading the essentials into my car, dropped Linda and Maggie at their house, then Sara and I made it home about 10pm.  The house was in good shape (survived my short time renters who had stayed 4 nights) but meant that beds were unmade, sheets were unwashed, and a night on the sofa worked just fine!!  So...my first day doubts were whether to turn back or proceed with the trip - thank goodness we continued on!  Despite all the RV problems of battery issues, slideout malfunction, generator disconnect, door hinge break, tank heaters and door flange scraped on the gas station cement slope, and the tangle with a stone wall...everything worked out in the end, thank God for safe travels, and we enjoyed the adventure!!  The final totals: 4,533 miles traveled, $1250 gas cost (averaging 10 mpg), and total trip cost $3600 for 2 people/2 dogs over 31 days travel.  Gas was a high cost at this time of year in US, and always much greater in Canada, so that ran the cost up.  Also, due to RV battery issues, we did not boondock as much as we have in past because I preferred to have electric hookups most of time to keep battery functioning.  Although an expensive trip, I’ll save up and look forward to another trip soon!  Thanks for following along!
