Anse au Griffon, Quebec, Canada
What a beautiful day, although a little hotter than usual - turned off the fans last night for fear of cold, but was a little hot in RV this morn!  We left campsite for the Forillon National Park about 11am, parked in RV lot, and got on the trail at high noon - felt good in the shade but probably 80 degrees in the sun.  Lots of hikers, not too many other dogs, but ours started out ambitiously - dragging us up very steep inclines!  We started at Cap Bon Ami (north Forillon Park), taking Mont Alban trail to a lookout tower - advised to be a 1.5 hour round trip.  I didn’t expect to make that, and we were working hard on the ascent.  Rocky, gravel uphills interspersed with stair climbs for the steepest areas.  They say in the 1800’s this was the trail across the peninsula, requiring ox carts to transport wares through summer and winter - can’t imagine a winter trip over this trail!!  Maggie and Sara were bounding at first, but heated up quickly, requiring several water stops.  We were also sweating, dripping, and panting so happy to stop for the dogs.  Three fourths up, Maggie laid out in dirt as if to quit, but we explained that the “view would be worth it”!  We made it to the peak (an observation tower that provided 360 degree views north and south, towards famous Perce Rock - not sure if we saw it as the sky is hazy, but view is stunning.  While resting at the top, we encountered a father and 2 daughters who were in love with the dogs.  All 3 spoke some English, and consulted each other when stuck for a word.  The girls desperately wanted a dog, dad was reserved about dogs, but they spent at least 45 minutes loving on the dogs and taking pictures with them, then sending pics home to their mother :). Dad said they were complaining about the heat and hike, but meeting the dogs made the discomfort worthwhile - like I said, dogs make great introductions!  The downhill return was also treacherous due to gravel and loose rock, but we returned at 3pm.  On the way back to campground, we found a rest side stop that was a memorial to an Irish ship that had shipwrecked here in 1847, and parishioners of St Patricks church, Montreal had erected this memorial for the 187 people who perished.  Beyond it was a vast expanse of  pristine, uninhabited beach - a perfect place to rest up, get the feet wet in COLD St Lawrence Bay, and let Maggie run a few zoomies!  Sara chose to sleep in the sun, trying to improve her tan!  Home again to our campground, must shower no matter the cost tonight!!  I did see what I think was a whale on this stretch of coast while I was driving last night - it’s not their peak season right now, but they do run whale watching cruises from here.  Running low on food still - good for salmon and chicken, but only corn for veggie tonight!  Guess we’ll make it, but I feel like a ship with dwindling provisions!  We do still have the brownie mix if microwave will just cooperate - otherwise, we eat the mix out of the bowl, unbaked!  Like I said, we’re hard up and haven’t seen a “marche” since the last  one 2 days ago!  Where is Amazon delivery when you need them!!!
