Saint-Maxime-du-Mont-Louis, Québec, Canada
So we were up late trying to catch up on the blog and uploading pictures...Linda decided we just didn’t have time to get up early enough to disconnect and get to church in town by 10 am.  Instead, a leisurely wake up and breakfast outside in the cool sunshine was in order.  We finished up the great raspberries from the Quebec Market, but haven’t seen many fruit stands along the Gaspésie route as I had thought.  Then we got to talking to our camping neighbors from New Brunswick who were a wealth of information - first about a dog park that we missed in Rimouski, then more points of interest along the Gaspe Peninsula, and then their description of a vaca to Florida area.  One thing lead to another as I told them we would love to help them plan another FL vaca, and we are now invited to camp at the Senior Home they own.  Funny story:  Anne said she made a call on some Mexican “sisters” (?nuns) who were helping her adopt 2 children from Mexico, and while visiting them, she found that the local seniors home was closing down due to lack of management, Anne expressed her dismay and the sisters asked “do you want to buy it?”, and 24 hours later a contract was formulated.  She is a physical therapist, her sister an occupational therapist, and her husband the administrator.  They also had a Jack Russell terrier that they call their 3rd adopted child - daughter bought it, they never had wanted a dog in the home, and now the dog goes everywhere with them, said they can’t believe they love this dog so much!!  Anyway, didn’t get out til 11:30, then drove back through Rimouski to track down the “canin park” at the local sports complex - nice park, chatted with owners of a Dobie puppy, chihuahua, and small terrier.  Our Weims make friends wherever they go - I’m sure these young couples would not have attempted their limited English if Sara had not tried to curl up in their laps, but we ended up having a good conversation and romp in the park!  Finally, on the road for what I thought was only 130 miles to Saint Maxime du Mont Louis (try to type all that into GPS city space!). It ended up being a 5 hour drive, including stops at St Flavie (Centre d’Art by Marcel Gagnon - family of artists who have carved 120 sculptures in wood that stand in the river’s edge and then their beautiful home, restaurant, and gallery on the property), and St Ulrich looking for the winery, Matane where we could have gone to the salmon museum or watched the salmon running but settled for chocolate ice cream on the waterfront.  Then we started to worry we would not get to next campground before they closed, so missed a stop in Cap-Chat, St Anne-des-Monts, and several others that looked like charming, artsy towns.  They are also specializing in adventure sports such as windsurfing, kayaking, zip lines, ice climbing, etc but think I’ll pass on those!  I don’t think Sara and Maggie are ready for ice climbing!  We finally get to that town I already typed, and found our campground at 7pm, just in time for a gorgeous sunset!  Our campground is on a high hill above the town and over the “river” which is so wide that the other shore is not visible, looks like an ocean to me!!  This is a campground I hoped for with views of sea, mountains, and a quaint town!  Heaven...but only have one night here.  Should have stayed longer, but already have reservations for tomorrow night so can’t default on that :(. Hungry tonight - loved our salmon burgers with lime-cilantro aioli, arugula, tomato, and avocado.  Running low on dessert and veggies, tho - must find a “marche” tomorrow!  Oh, and one more experience:  showers cost $1 per 5 min here, and no water temp adjustment, just put in the money and warm water for 5 min, then off!  Last place was 25 cents per 3 mins, what a deal!  Cindy tells us utilities are sky high here, so air conditioning is rare and laundry is done late evening when electric is cheaper!
