A great morning in Mont Louis although sky is hazy. Feeling fresh after our $1 showers last night so we opt for a walk off our cliff perch campground down into town via the waterfront. Looked easy (a bit like walking Mt Troy Pittview down to the river!) but we felt good! Had met our new neighbor this morn who is driving a huge Class A (greyhound bus size) and towing a car that makes his “rig” 65 ft long(versus my 24 ft rig), yet he whipped it in next to us in a minute. In talking, we find he was a truck driver, now lives half the year in Texas and half in Vermont, has a wheelchair bound wife (paralyzed after a car accident) so the rig is equipped with wheelchair lift, and traveling with their German Shepard - anyway, not many English speaking campers, so we were glad to meet. But I digress - after meeting them, we walked the dogs toward town - very unusual shore line, looks like lava rock going out to sea, very shallow, and the town is centered in the inlet with church bells ringing for 20 mins on the hour. Our walk was going very nicely until Linda decides to let Maggie off leash in a deserted area of beach so she could run - unfortunately, Maggie’s excitement overtook her, and she started her racing “Zoomie” before Linda could even let go of the leash and it resulted in Linda flipping head over heels and landing on her back in mucky black sand. The good news was that it was sand and not the lava rock area, bad news was that her $1 shower was wasted! Maggie stood by like an angel, acting like she had nothing to do with the incident! So back to the campground and I packed up the RV while Linda spent another dollar at the shower. Then headed north on Rt 132 that follows the coast. The towns are getting smaller and even finding a marche (market) was hard. Finally saw one and stopped for veggies - arugula is going bad, we have no chocolate except a brownie mix, and no wine - obviously, we are suffering! Veggie selection was very poor - broccoli was yellow, zucchini had mold spots, and carrots were not appealing. Bought corn and tomatoes and wine - that should keep us going! We passed the Forillon National Park office just before our campground so went in for maps and hiking advice. Then on to our campsite by 3:30 at Camping Griffon - I had reserved 2 nights here as it is “on the sea”, or at least some sites have a beautiful view; ours, however, is next to the highway with a few trees and the highway for a view! The advantage is we can be first out of the campground if there is a dangerous weather alert! We’ll explore more tomorrow to see if we can walk out to that gorgeous view, but today we wanted to get in a short hike to waterfalls in Forillon. A quick snack, and on the road to the park, passing the lighthouse at Cap Des Rosiers - this is about where the St Lawrence River meets the St Lawrence Bay with Newfoundland to the north. We found ample parking for the RV at Las Chutes (waterfall) and did a simple 40 minute loop to see 2 waterfalls. Here we met a young French couple who were vacationing in Quebec, and also complained of the language difficulty! They say French Canadian language is incomprehensible to them, but Canadians can understand them. The short hike was all downhill steps and, of course, all uphill to get back - good workout since we’ve slacked off the stair master exercise we got in Quebec City. Then back to the RV by 6 pm and started our veggieless dinner. Costco chicken defrosted on our wilted arugula, and the corn was quite good when it finally finished. Now having trouble with the micro - it cuts off when it gets too hot, and stays off about 20 mins. I’ve never had a microwave overheat, but it’s done it twice now. So had to wait 20 mins to finish the corn - steamed it a little, cut off cob, then wanted to roast it in convection oven with Chile lime seasoning til browned. Dinner at 8pm, but corn was superb!
