Schodack Island State Park, New York, United States
We had a beautiful night on the Newfane Hill boondocking lot next to Donn and Carroll’s house - the mountain view is incredible, it was a cool, crisp night, and we didn’t meet the bears as we walked back to the RV!  We had a date for coffee at 7 and the mountain tour at 8 am.  Donn also helped me plot a route back to I-81 that will be scenic and gets us away from major traffic cities.  Their friend Alicia joined us for the walk and we set off with 3 dogs, 5 humans to do “the pond tour” - most of the land on Newfane Hill Road was originally owned by Carroll’s family, so almost everyone was a family member.  So we were able to walk across many family lands and the dogs were able to run to their hearts desire.  Lightening is being so gracious with these 2 huge dogs in his space!!  We walked about 2 hours, then extricated the RV from the field parking (and tried not to harm the Priem’s stone wall any further) and were led down Newfane Hill Rd by the cute little red Jeep, starring Lightening sitting so pretty on the back seat!  We stopped to get pictures of one of the covered bridges near Brattleboro and then started off on our scenic drive west.  Our first stop was for lunch at the Reservoir just west of Wilmington, VT - a beautiful, placid lake with just a few kayakers and sailboats.  We crawled down some hazardous rocks because it put us out on an isolated rocky beach where the dogs could roam freely and we could sit in the shade to enjoy the view during lunch.  These scenes, the quaint villages, the lakes and mountains are just what I thought Vermont would be like - what a great visit!  Really hope I will get to see the Priem’s again, maybe in ATL next time!  Now on the road toward NY, via Molly Stark Scenic Byway (VT Rt 9/ NY Rt 7).  GPS took us astray when we set our sites on Schodack Island State Park - it took us down  some narrow, windy, back roads - which did help us discover a nice farm stand for veggies.  But we finally came out at the entrance to this park which is located on an island in the middle of the Hudson River, just south of Albany, NY.  It’s a beautiful park, large private pull through sites, wonderful showers (despite the fact that I couldn’t get the temperature to regulate - first so hot that I couldn’t stand it, second got cold making it torture to do soap rinse!). Anyway, we grilled our pork chops, asparagus, and fresh corn, and enjoyed Carroll’s fine home grown tomatoes.  It is very muggy tonight, and we’re thankful for the electric hookups so we can use a/c tonight.  No water hookups, but our tanks are full so we’ll be in good shape.
