Camped for two days in Moremi Game reserve. we found out the hard way what a mobile safari was. While we drove to our site, I asked the cook ( Rafiki) what type of camp site we would have. We were not fenced in and our guide had no gun as it is not permitted in Botswana. I was sure we would have one or the other, if not both. Lucia and I were both in shock to hear this and we started laughing, crying and just released our stress and worries of what would lie ahead. During this time the team of three set up our camp and supper.

After getting over the initial shock, Lucia said, "Oh well, we will have great adventure stories to tell ...if we survived to tell the tale."
Again we laughed nervously till tears ran down our cheeks once more. No wonder they never told us the details of our safari before departure. But now, there was no turning back.

Our Driver and guide, Leabo gave us a briefing around the camp fire on how to behave after dark. We were not to get out of the tent and if we had to go to the bathroom, it would be best to wait till morning when we could see what visitors were around our site.

Well we had a great pasta supper, red wine and not too much water before going to bed in our canvas tents for two. The guide slept in a smaller tent, right besides his car door. Is that indicative of danger? Lol!

We made it throughout the night but after being super attentive to all surrounding sounds like the elephant walking around the tent, the hippos in the distance, hyaenas and yes, the lion. I finally put on my ear plugs to block out the African evening sounds and try to get a little shut eye. The girls both slept soundly, they did not hear much so we were all more relaxed after getting through the night sleeping outdoors. One down four to go!
The next morning at first light we all go out of our tents, embraced each other and Lucia took a role count.
